台中市太平區中山路二段 (803國軍醫院對面)
The Pinglin Forest Park, covering an area of 11.7 hectares, is located opposite the National Army Taiwan Veterans Hospital in Taichung and adjacent to the China Institute of Technology. The park was originally a military base for the National Defense Ministry, but due to the reduction in military personnel in recent years, the land was no longer needed, and the space was revitalized into a multi-functional ecological park with landscape, recreational, and floodwater detention features. The park is planned to include a 3.7-hectare primitive forest park and a 32,000-cubic-meter ecological floodwater detention pond. During flood seasons, it provides floodwater detention and water storage, while on normal days, it serves as a recreational space for local residents. The park features diverse ecological landscapes, complete service facilities, and is particularly popular with parents who bring their children to play here on weekends. The park includes public facilities such as a ring-shaped lake trail, a waterfront wooden boardwalk, and a children's play area, as well as an outdoor performance plaza that can accommodate 1,200 spectators. The unique design of the plaza is a highlight, providing a stage for local residents to hold various types of activities. The park has preserved 695 native trees and planted various species such as cherry blossoms, bald cypress, Albizia julibrissin, and yellow-flowered wind bell trees. The scenery changes with the seasons and is complemented by the lush greenery of aquatic plants and fish swimming in the floodwater detention pond. The park is a beautiful place for exercise, strolling, and appreciating natural ecology. It is also suitable for inviting friends to have a picnic under the trees. The construction of the Pinglin Forest Park not only provides local residents with a comfortable living space but also increases the urban green space, reduces the impact of typhoons and heavy rainfall, and alleviates the problem of regional flooding that causes property losses for nearby residents. It also regulates the microclimate in the nearby area, improves air pollution, and enhances the overall quality of life for local residents. The park contributes to making Taichung a green and lively city.
