As a child attending a wedding with parents, I always looked forward to the sweet-and-sour flavor of Green Oasis juice accompanying each delicious course, pairing effortlessly with every dish in unforgettable harmony. Black Elkan Ginger Soda with a pinch of salt—an eccentric home remedy for colds in every household—created a tingly, ticklish sensation on the palate. Even before the cold was cured, the mood improved by half. What is your "Black Elkan Memory"? Embark on a nostalgic journey through the Black Elkan Beverage Museum's time corridor, revisiting days of our lives when we shared these drinks together. In the museum’s forecourt, a massive wall of lightboxes showcasing bottles of Elkan Soda and soft drinks is the limited-edition souvenir version from the 2004 Changhua Flower Expo, which sparked widespread popularity. Inside the museum, the hallway on both sides displays图文 (text and images) tracing Black Elkan's evolution from 1925 as the "Jin Xin Commercial Company" to its ascendance as a major beverage company. This enduring history has grown alongside Taiwanese society: the island’s first bottle of bubble soda, bottled Black Elkan soda served at banquets, and iconic glass bottles become shared memories for many fifth and sixth graders. During the 1950s, when Taiwan's economy was just taking off, a wave of soda and ginger soda consumption surged. The museum exhibits annual平面 (flat) advertisements, signs, trademarks, such as the iron plates hung outside general stores, retired electric clocks presented to distributors and retailers, vintage hand-painted posters, and even detailed explanations of packaging methods, reviving the glory of those times. In 1995, to celebrate its 70th anniversary, Black Elkan launched the "Person征集, Object征集,and Work征集 (Collection征集 Activity征集)" to gather numerous memorabilia from across the regions. Childhood soda bottle keychains, prizes exchanged through bottle cap collections, and early insulated cooler boxes are among the treasures showcased in the Black Elkan Relic Museum established in 1996 (the precursor to the Black Elkan Beverage Museum). Visitors can walk through Black Elkan’s timeline, immersing themselves in a unique nostalgic aesthetic. Alongside static exhibits, the museum also screens videos introducing Black Elkan’s journey, classic advertisements, and the latest production facilities. After the guided tour, visitors will receive a drink as part of the nostalgic soda-drinking experience.
