Hujing Islet is divided into Dongshan and Xishan, with the village located in the flat area between the two mountains. Dongshan is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public, while Xishan, after the military withdrawal, was transformed into Hujing Xishan Park. The most eye-catching feature in Xishan Park is a large statue of Guanyin carved from Han white jade and eighteen arhats with different expressions. This statue of Guanyin was donated to Hujing by compatriots from Hong Kong and carved by Chinese artisans. The facial expressions and clothing details are extremely vivid. Initially, due to the enormous size of the statue, it was divided into three parts for transportation to Hujing and then reassembled. While strolling through Xishan Park, you might notice many agave plants, as they are drought-tolerant and highly adaptable. Agave plants are commonly seen in Penghu, but their leaf edges are very sharp. In the past, agave plants were even planted along the coast for defensive purposes. Hujing is also famous for its three treasures: centipede wine, cactus juice, and fresh fish soup. Hujing is known for its abundant and large red-legged centipedes, and legend has it that centipede wine is very effective in treating rheumatism and skin diseases. However, due to tobacco and alcohol management regulations, homemade wine can only be for personal use. Therefore, centipede wine, which was once very popular, is no longer available for purchase. Nevertheless, you can still taste the cactus juice and fresh fish soup!
