The town of Puzi in Chiayi County was once a major center for the embroidery industry. The prosperity of the time was reflected in the large number of embroidered art products exported from Puzi, including eight immortals, door curtains, pillow covers, bedding, glove puppets, clothing for opera performances, bridal dowries, etc. These products were sold all over Taiwan. In order to preserve this excellent local cultural feature, the Puzi Township Office has been dedicated to promoting embroidery since 2002. Not only did it establish the Chiayi County Embroidery Culture Association and offer training courses for embroidery, but in 2003, it also received subsidies from the Executive Yuan for a local cultural center project and built the Puzi Embroidery Cultural Center as a center for promoting embroidery culture. The center also promotes cultural activities and serves as a window for Puzi tourism. The building that houses the Embroidery Cultural Center was originally the office of the local boat unit, which was converted from a Japanese wooden building, giving it an antique feel that matches the concept of embroidery culture. Inside the museum, visitors can see the prosperity of Puzi's embroidery industry and a collection of exquisite embroidered art pieces. Through interactive learning about the industry, the Embroidery Cultural Center recreates a rich local culture, integrates community activities, drives cultural tourism, and has become an attractive tourist spot.
