Jibei Islet covers an area of approximately 3.1 square kilometers, with a coastline of about 13 kilometers, making it the largest island in the North Sea and one of Taiwan's most popular tourist destinations. The island's terrain slopes downward from east to west, featuring beautiful sandy beaches and sandspits formed by marine sediment. These are the island's most distinctive geographical features. The sandy beach is located in the southwest of the island, extending south from the Xiagong Mountains. At the southern end of the beach, influenced by ocean currents, a sandspit extends into the sea, measuring approximately 800 meters in length and 200 meters at its widest point. Artificial stone weirs are scattered around the island, with over 200 weirs during their peak period, though only 88 remain today. The island is about 5 nautical miles from 赤崁, with a travel time of around 20 minutes. Jibei Islet is not only one of the fishing grounds in the northern Penghu Islands but also benefits from its significant tidal range and extensive intertidal zones. Early settlers observed fish behavior and utilized the tidal differences to build stone weirs for fishing, using local basalt and coral reefs. According to historical records, during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era, when "weir taxes" were collected, Jibei already had 1 large weir and 4 small weirs, indicating that stone weir construction dates back to before the Qianlong period. The sea area around Jibei Islet is densely packed with stone weirs, with the remaining 88 weirs accounting for nearly one-seventh of the over 580 stone weirs in the entire county. At low tide, visitors can wade from the local landmark 鰩灣仔 to the northwest islet. The coastline on both sides of 鰩灣仔 is densely lined with stone weirs, numbering about half of Jibei's total stone weirs (around 40). This unique practice of utilizing the intertidal zone to build fishing traps with basalt is one of Jibei Islet's most distinctive cultural landscapes. The popular TV drama "Dolphin Bay Lovers," which once captivated audiences, features a scene where Zeya (played by Xu Shaojiang) and Yi Tianbian (played by Zhang Shaohuan) reunite after growing up. This reunion takes place at Jibei Sand尾. The drama's broadcast attracted many fans to visit the location. The boat house where Yi Tianbian and Xu Zeya first meet after growing up, Yi Tianbian's noodle shop, and the Dolphin Bay bus stop sign are all focal points for fans' cameras. Have you been one of them? When visiting Jibei Islet, in addition to experiencing the sandy beach and imagining the boat house scenes at Jibei Sand尾, don't forget to explore the community to find Yi Tianbian's home from the drama. If you take any photos, feel free to share them with us! Additionally, the music video for singer Shin Xiaoxiao's song "Forget," which captures the charming and colorful summer of Penghu, was also filmed on Jibei. The popular "Da Ren Ge" – Chen Bolin and Ko Yu-luen – starred in a 2006 7-ELEVEN commercial where they rode motorcycles, with a white cloud drifting across the sky and a scene of the two shedding their shorts to dive into the crystal-clear waters. All these scenes were filmed on Jibei.
