"Urai Old Street" refers to the area around Urai Street, Waterfall Road, and Ring Mountain Road. The store signs are uniform in design, giving a neat and orderly appearance. Most of the shops incorporate indigenous cultural elements, allowing visitors to enjoy aboriginal mountain delicacies such as charcoal-grilled wild boar meat, hot spring eggs, rose apple rice, bamboo tube rice, and Maggie dishes. Additionally, unique products like millet wine and millet mochi are perfect as souvenirs for friends and family. Here, you can also watch mountain song and dance performances, experiencing the warmth and vitality of the indigenous culture. The name "Urai" comes from the Atayal language, meaning a steaming spring. Both the Atayal people and later settlers, including Han Chinese and Japanese, fell in love with the hot springs here, which are renowned for their beauty and health benefits. Many hot spring hotels line the old street. Atayal culture is another highlight of the area; a visit to the Atayal Museum offers insights into the rich weaving, architectural, and spiritual traditions of the people. Meanwhile, the old street is a food lover's paradise, with numerous aboriginal dishes to try. For those seeking natural beauty, the Urai Railway offers a scenic ride through the mountains, while the cable car provides a bird's-eye view of waterfalls and forests. Every year from February to April, the area hosts a cherry blossom festival, with varieties like mountain cherry, Fuji cherry, Yoshino cherry, and Showa cherry blooming in succession, attracting many visitors to enjoy the vibrant displays.
