The intertidal zone of Maagang, located in front of Maagang Fishing Harbor in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, measures approximately a few hundred meters in length and width. It is the place on Taiwan's coast where green algae grow the most. The surface of the wave-cut platform is quite flat, and its terrain belongs to a wave-cut platform. There are also many small tidal pools and gullies, making it suitable for exploring the intertidal zone ecosystem on foot. In the tidal pools or under rocks, you can find small fish fry, sea anemones, top shells, limpets, abalone, sea hares, and crabs, as well as slowly moving small hermit crabs. Near the low tide zone, you can find small Bryophyta, coralline algae, sea anemones, acorn barnacles, and sea squirts. The best part is that this place has different charm throughout the year, and you can observe intertidal zone creatures as well. In the spring, the wave-cut platform is covered with a lush green layer of Ulva and algae, resembling a natural emerald green carpet. This is also the best season for a parent-child eco-tour.
