台中市西區林森路33號
The current building serves as the preparation office for the National Museum of Comics. The Martial Arts Hall of Taichung Prison, located at No. 33, Lin森 Road, West District, Taichung City, was built in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period. It was used as a martial arts training hall for prison officials and police officers. The hall is the only one of its kind remaining in Taichung City, preserving its original historical appearance, and holds significant value for preservation, reuse, and architectural research. The Martial Arts Hall complex consists of the main building and an auxiliary building on the east side. The main building is constructed symmetrically, with a shrine located at the rear center. On the left side of the shrine is the judo area, and on the right side is the kendo area. The hall has seating on only one side, and compared to similar buildings like the 武德殿, it is a smaller martial arts facility. The architectural style is typical of the Japanese colonial period, with a raised foundation, a façade imitating a wooden structure and decorated with wall pillars, and a 入母式 roof with large 鬼瓦 and 博風板 decorations. The Taichung Prison Martial Arts Hall was built in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period as a training facility for prison officials and police officers to practice judo and kendo. It was registered as a historical building in 2004.
