In the 1960s, Donghe began as a manufacturer of wooden cabinets for televisions. At that time, televisions were the primary source of home entertainment, and the cabinets even had lockable doors, indicating their value. Later, through cross-border Japanese-Chinese cooperation, Donghe transitioned toward musical instrument production, becoming a distributor for Kawai Pianos and Yamaha. Starting from its first piano, Donghe also produced flutes and mouth organs, offering parents affordable instruments that significantly contributed to the popularization of music in the local region. In 2007, the Donghe Music Experience Center was established, offering educational experiences based on exploring the piano manufacturing process and interactive DIY workshops with flute, harmonica, and piano models. These activities allowed participants to understand the construction and sound mechanics of instruments while gaining insights through various explanations. In addition, the Donghe Music Experience Center features dedicated exhibition areas: the Sound Experience Zone, the Environmental Experience Zone, the Antique Piano Section, the Piano Dissection Area, etc. Through flat and 3D displays, visitors can explore the intricate details of pianos, both visually and interactively, gaining an educational and engaging experience. Environmental Education: Starting with Listening to the Sounds of the Environment Donghe is a rare visitor factory awarded an Environmental Education Certification, promoting environmental awareness through listening and reflecting on the sounds of everyday life. Pleasant sounds are worth appreciating, while noise can be transformed into constructive demand for sound design, enhancing society's sonic environment. The environmental education program includes the following experiences: - *"Grandpa Changhe’s Time Machine":* to understand the changing relationship between Donghe and Taixi through historical periods. - *"Listening to the Past":* an exploration of how vendors facilitated early trade through calling out for goods. - *"The Symphony of Pianos":* the intricate process of piano manufacturing. - *"I Think, I Play":* how to create musical instruments or toys using everyday items. Donghe hopes to attract children to discover instruments and invites adults to embark on a nostalgic, educational journey through these fun, hands-on experiences.
