The Feitsui Reservoir, which supplies water and generates electricity for the greater Taipei area, is located on the Beishi River, a tributary of the Xindian River, with a catchment area of 303 square kilometers, about 30 kilometers from downtown Taipei. The reservoir's catchment area covers the districts of Xindian, Shiding, Shuangxi, and Pinglin in New Taipei City, making it the second-largest reservoir in Taiwan, after the Zengwen Reservoir. The surrounding area is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, with the most notable being the Urai rhododendron, a species unique to Taiwan, which blooms spectacularly every March. Animals such as the Taiwan macaque and Taiwan magpie can also be spotted, and the Feitsui tree frog gets its name from being found near the reservoir. To learn more about the reservoir, visitors can start at the Water Resources Eco-Education Center, which provides information on water conservation, reservoir ecology, and reservoir construction, making it a suitable destination for family outings. Prior to visiting, reservations must be made in advance through the Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Water Resources Education Activity Registration System (click to go).
