A lush green valley stretching as far as the eye can see, the Taoyuan Valley boasts an expansive grassland that extends for several kilometers. In densely populated Taiwan, this place is like a secluded utopia, untouched and isolated from the world. Formerly known as "Jie Niu Zai Shan" (Tethered Cow Mountain), the Taoyuan Valley was a place where children grazed cattle and played during the agricultural off-season. In autumn and winter, the golden grass that covers the mountains sways gently in the mountain and sea breezes, forming a fresh and beautiful pastoral landscape painting. Located at the intersection of mountains and sea, the Taoyuan Valley, as its name suggests, is the fabled "Peach Blossom Spring" of the Wuling people. It offers a serene tranquility that feels worlds apart from the hustle and bustle, complemented by the occasional sight of smoke rising from a few homes and the sounds of chickens and dogs, making one forget the dust and noise of the world. Situated at the border of New Taipei City and Yilan, the Taoyuan Valley is part of the Snow Mountain range's trailing ridges. Looking north towards New Taipei, the rolling green hills stretch endlessly; gazing east towards Yilan, one is immersed in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Guishan Island, where mountains and sea intertwine in a picturesque landscape. There are three main hiking trails leading to the Taoyuan Valley: the Neiliu Trail, starting from the Gongliao Terraced Fields, is the shortest and most accessible route; the Daxi Trail, which begins along the Yilan coast and is steeper; and the Cao Ling Ancient Trail, which connects to the grassy ridges. Each trail offers unique scenery along the way. Upon reaching the Taoyuan Valley, the vast open fields and landscapes unfold before one's eyes, making the journey feel suddenly bright and liberating, as if time itself has forgotten to pass.
