The Wufeng Lin Family, originating from Wufeng, Taichung, got its name from the area. In the 19th century, the Lin family controlled a large amount of agricultural land in Taiwan and assisted in pacifying many wars, possessing several thousand troops. They obtained privileges such as camphor monopoly and became one of the five major families in Taiwan. The National Historical Site, Wufeng Lin Family, refers to the general term for the garden and residential buildings of the Wufeng Lin Family located in Wufeng. The scope includes three major architectural complexes: the Xia Cuo (Lower Residence) system, the Ding Cuo (Upper Residence) system, and the Laiyuan. The Wufeng Lin Family, Gongbao Di (Duke's Residence) and Dahuachang (Large Flower Hall), are open to visitors. Both are exemplary of traditional Taiwanese architecture and possess significant cultural and artistic value. The Gongbao Di, a representative example of a Fujian-style official residence in Taiwan, was built from 1858 to 1895. It has a grand scale, with eleven rooms and five depths, making it the largest in Taiwan. The interior walls feature calligraphy and paintings by Li Hongzhang. The intricate and rich coloring, along with a couplet and a story, are eye-catching. The fine wood carvings display elegant and refined details. The materials used exhibit local characteristics. The window carvings feature traditional auspicious patterns such as bats and dragons, adding a sense of luxury. The Dahuachang, a remaining example of a Fuzhou-style theater building in Taiwan, was built from 1890 to 1894. The five-room-wide building features a bright hall and a unique design with a cave window. It was used for banquets, family gatherings, and watching performances. The Dahuachang is an important symbol of the prosperity of the Wufeng Lin Family's Xia Cuo. This site has hosted numerous lectures on social issues such as politics, ethnicity, and women's rights, such as the Taiwan Parliament Petition and the New Culture Movement. These events have had a profound impact on Taiwan's democratic society. The Wufeng Lin Family offers guided tours, DIY experiences, creative shops, and nighttime tours. The park is open from 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00, Monday through Sunday. The address is No. 26, Minsheng Road, Wufeng District, Taichung City. The phone number is 04-23317985. The official website is http://wufenglins.com.tw/. Visitors can explore the site, learn about Taiwan's history, appreciate traditional Chinese architecture, and experience the traditional tea-serving etiquette. It is a historical site suitable for family visits, providing an educational and entertaining experience. The admission fee is NT$250 for general visitors, NT$200 for Taichung citizens, seniors over 65, and students over 12. The admission fee for children between 6 and 12 years old is NT$125. Free admission is granted to Wufeng District residents, children under 6, and people with disabilities.
