Lane 181, Guohua Street, Chiayi City, commonly known as “Fu-lu Lane,” was the route Chiayi examinees took to Tainan Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty’s Tongzhi era. Under the Old House Revival Project, one of the lane’s aging homes—43 years old and built of timber mixed with reinforced concrete—has been restored and reborn as “Bing-jiang Camp.” Its staircase and second-floor decking are wood, and its pierced, floral-patterned iron windows still exude vintage charm. After leasing the space, the owners hired master craftsmen to dismantle the old wooden doors and iron window grilles and reinstall them as wall-mounted art, preserving the atmosphere of a bygone era.
