Located at No. 16 Minsheng Street, Fenglin, this building, distinguished by its prominent wooden structure, was known as the "Dwelling House for the Chief of the Fenglin Branch Office" during the Japanese colonial period. It later served as the residence of Zhang Qilang, the first principal of Fenglin Junior High School. In its early days, numerous notable individuals from Fenglin devoted themselves to Taiwan's educational field and held principal positions in schools, numbering up to 90, earning the town the well-deserved reputation as the "Hometown of Principals" due to its exceptionally high density of small school principals in the region. This structure, once left abandoned and nearly reduced to ruins, was selected for restoration and designated as the "Principal's Dream Factory" in 2004 with community suggestions and government support. Today, this center serves as an open-access reading space and provides students with a venue for practical "life classrooms," which represent complementary learning opportunities distinct from traditional academic education. The concept aims to lead children beyond the confines of books and into the realms of natural and domestic life knowledge. A group of enthusiastic volunteers manages the environment, designs educational activities, and conducts guided tours and explanations for visitors. Through visiting the site, the public can gain an enriched understanding of local historical culture while also experiencing the vigor and warmth of a vibrant community.
