花蓮縣花蓮市中正路622巷6號
Along Mei Lun Creek on Zhongzheng Road in Hualien City lies a cluster of Japanese-style wooden dormitories. These buildings served as residences for military officers stationed in Hualien during the Japanese colonial period, forming a complete small residential area with neatly arranged wooden structures. At the central location stands the "General's Manor," constructed in 1936 and previously the official residence of Colonel Nakamura, the highest-ranking military commander in the Hualien region. Unlike the double-joined wooden dormitories of other buildings, the General's Manor features a standalone, walled estate with a raised base, signifying a higher rank than other dwellings. In recent years, under the efforts of the government and local residents, the General's Manor and surrounding Japanese-style dormitories have been designated as a county-designated cultural landmark. After restoration work, they have been opened to the public and guided by local volunteers to introduce visitors to the historical significance of the General's Manor. In addition to the classic architectural aesthetics of the building itself, the interior decoration is exquisitely detailed. Japanese-style rooms and long corridors brimming with Japanese characteristics have all been preserved— cedarwood cabinets used at that time remain intact, exuding an aromatic fragrance.
