Xindian Old Street, located on the east bank of the Xindian River, near the current Xindian Bitan Bridge, according to historical records, was founded during the Daoguang period. In its early days, it was a hub for the distribution of agricultural products and daily necessities for the surrounding areas of Wulai, Muzha, Ankeng, and Jingmei. Due to its convenient transportation, including river transport, light railways, and suspension bridges, the old street was once prosperous and thriving. The old street is lined with shops, and in the past, there were drugstores, herbs shops, and cake shops, among others. From birth to old age, all the necessities of life could be found here. The back alleys of the shops led directly to the Xindian River, so the merchants collectively raised funds to build a temple, called Changxing Palace, to worship the earth god. According to Mr. Lin Wenliang, the temple's manager, "The temple is over 150 years old, and the original earth god was washed away by floods, leaving only the earth goddess." The ancient temple has been expanded into a two-story building, protecting and blessing the merchants on Xindian Road with peace and prosperity. The Xindian Old Street still retains its original flavor, with vendors calling out their prices in the morning market, while in the afternoon, it is almost quiet. Especially when strolling through the old street in the evening, basking in the warm glow of the setting sun, one feels as if they have stepped into history.
