Architect Wang Da-hong's Home on Jianguo South Road

2018-10-29
台北市中山區中山北路三段181號
After three years of research and preservation efforts by the Wang Da-Hong Architect Research and Preservation Association, Yang Yau-Hu, chairman of Puyong Construction, Ye Hsiao-Chen, general manager of Wenxin Construction, and various sponsors, the Wang Da-Hong residence on Jian Guo South Road, which had been lost for more than 40 years, has been revived. Mr. Wang Da-Hong, now 100 years old, is a pioneer of modernism in Taiwan's architecture. His works combine the simplicity of mainstream 20th-century Western modern architecture with the elegance of Chinese culture, creating a unique style that belongs to his own culture. In addition to the "Jian Guo South Road Residence," which was his first work after establishing his practice in Taiwan, Mr. Wang Da-Hong's works also include the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Lin Yutang Residence, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building. The Wang Da-Hong Architect's Jian Guo South Road Residence has been open for visits since July 6, 2017. The opening hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., every Wednesday to Sunday. The public can visit for free. On Saturday mornings, there are scheduled guided tours (registration on site, with a maximum of 30 people), and free visits are not allowed. Starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoons, free visits are allowed. For questions about the guided tours, please contact the Cultural Heritage Division of the City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau. We welcome citizens who are interested in visiting.
