Yifangju is a traditional house built by the Chen family, one of the early pioneers of Taipei. The Chen family of Yifangju originally came from Anxi County, Quanzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province. During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, their ancestors crossed the sea to Taiwan to develop the land. Previously, they had already had houses, but it was not until the early years of the Guangxu era that they invested a large amount of money to build Yifangju. This traditional three-in-one courtyard house is a typical example of an old house in the Taipei Basin. The main entrance is in the form of an "inward recessed" style, and the walls of the main building and the side buildings are all thick, solid brick and stone walls. The number of windows and doors is relatively small. In addition, two-story gun cabinets were built in the side buildings, which could be used to return fire and protect themselves in case of bandit attacks. Moreover, its windows are mostly made of stone, sourced from sandstone produced in Taipei, which also has local characteristics. The door plaque is inscribed with "Yifangju", and the signature is "Bingzi Year". According to calculations, it was built in the second year of the Guangxu era. With the rapid development of Taipei City in modern times, there are fewer and fewer traditional houses from the Qing Dynasty like Yifangju. It has served as historical evidence for the development of Taipei.
