A bistro opened by a Chiayi native—come as you are, even in shorts.
While most wine-and-dine etiquette lessons insist that shorts are a no-go in restaurants, Lemon Burger, a brand famous for “discounts for shorts,” has opened té khòo Shorts Restaurant, inviting everyone to eat and drink in total comfort.
I quietly asked the boss, Brother YC, if this was just a way to legitimize his own love of shorts.
“Exactly right,” he said. So come one, come all!
Lemon Burger, hailed as the pride of Chiayi, now has outposts in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung—its footprint keeps expanding, making it the strongest home-grown burger brand.
Looking back to 2007, Brother YC and his nutritionist wife started with “thefreen—Fresh Green Living Produce.” The attached burger, however, unexpectedly stole the show; after rebranding as “Lemon Burger,” their dream of “sharing the food culture they love” never faded.
té khòo Shorts Restaurant is not only a nostalgic nod to Lemon Burger’s origins as a produce shop but also one of the few spots in Chiayi championing natural wines.
So slip on your shorts and come drink!
