Jiying Temple, located in Jingmei Old Street, was originally built within the bamboo fence of Jingwei. It enshrines the protective deities of people from Anxi County, Fujian Province — Baoyi Zunwang Zhang Xun and Baoyi Dafu Xu Yuan. Later, due to poor fengshui, the temple was relocated in 1867 (the 6th year of the Tongzhi era) to the lower section of Jingwei Street, which is the current temple site.
400 years ago, the people from Anxi migrated to Taipei. As most of them were tea farmers, they chose the humid hillside area of Wenshan to grow tea, and brought their local protective deities, such as Baoyi Zunwang, Baoyi Dafu, and Qingshui Zuishi. At that time, the Anxi people were mainly from the Gao, Zhang, and Lin families. As time went on, the population gradually increased, and the cultivated land expanded from Jingmei to Muzha, Shenkeng, and Shidian. Naturally, more and more people worshipped the local deities of Anxi County. Therefore, Jiying Temple was expanded into three temples. The Gao Family Jiying Temple inside Jingmei Market is one of them.
This place has a strong sense of history of Jingmei Old Street, and it is a third-class cultural heritage site. Its exterior and interior are very solemn, with many wall decorations and exquisite stone carvings. The corridors also display the beauty of wood. The wooden windows and houses exude an atmosphere of the past, blending perfectly with the old street of Jingmei.
