Neigou Creek is a tributary of the Keelung River, with a total length of about 5.5 kilometers and a watershed area of about 7 square kilometers. To the west of Neigou Creek is Taipei City, and to the east is New Taipei City. It is a great place for people in the Donghu area to take walks, relax and chat. It is also the best place for the Donghu area to be close to nature.
Starting from 2013, the overall landscape renovation has been carried out in the middle section of the Neigou Creek in Donghu. The nearly 1-kilometer-long water-friendly walking path has been extended from the upper reaches. Through the installation of landscape bridges and riverside walking paths, it connects the previously separated walking paths on both sides of the Neigou Creek between Taipei City and New Taipei City. While removing the accumulated soil, the Wufen Pond water environment has been restored. Different depth ecological habitats have been created, making it possible to get close to the mountains, water and nature day and night, and creating an ecological education space where people can stop and experience. This will enhance the willingness of residents to approach and use the area, thereby increasing their awareness, understanding and joint conservation. It will also allow the beautiful memories stored in the minds of the local elders to be re-experienced.
Four Key Aspects
1. Unique Creativity and Restoration of the Former Local Natural and Cultural Living Environment
In terms of the overall engineering structure and shape, we mainly adopt lightweight design, integrating the expected Jiangnan garden landscape style of the local area, and selecting the existing environmental color scheme as the best option, in order to respect and integrate with the natural environment of Neigou Creek. The engineering structure, which considers water conservancy and flood control, also has aesthetic beauty.
2. Retaining the Existing Waterfront Green Corridor and Increasing Opportunities for Greening on the Embankment
Considering the flood control function of the embankment, greening is carried out in areas with sufficient space on the embankment, enriching the creation of the waterfront ecology and the spreading and growth of greenery.
3. Preserving and Improving the Riparian Habitat
Prioritizing the safety of the embankment, we also emphasize the preservation and improvement of natural ecological aspects. In the overall design, we follow the existing slope and terrain of the embankment. Except for the dredging projects, we do not over-dig or disturb the ecology.
4. Energy Saving, Carbon Reduction and Sustainable Development
Considering the need for energy saving and carbon reduction, the shoreline lighting along the route is mainly low intensity, retaining the safe lighting for people to take walks at night. In addition, the key scenic bridges connecting the two cities are planned with lighting, creating an image of stars twinkling on the riverside.
