The Jingke Stream, located upstream of Neishuangxi in the Shilin District of Taipei City, is about 2.1 kilometers long, with a watershed area of 450 hectares. The stream is abundant in water, with clear water and rich biodiversity. The watershed passes through four areas of Shilin District: Jingshan, Pingdeng, Gongliu, and Xishan, making it the source of water for Shilin District. From Jingke Bridge to Zhugao Ling Bridge, the streamside scenery along the stream is pleasant, with diverse stream ecology, and it has always been a popular destination for stream hiking enthusiasts to seek out scenic spots. The Jingke Stream has a steep flow and rapid current. In the past, during heavy rainstorms, it often caused erosion and loss of soil and rocks along the stream banks. To ensure the safety of the watershed and promote ecological conservation, the Taipei City Department of Public Works' Geotechnical Engineering Office has implemented a comprehensive planning and governance of the catchment area, and carried out the improvement in stages with annual funding arrangements. According to Huang Tien-jin, head of the debris flow prevention division of the Geotechnical Engineering Office, the Jingke Stream has adopted the porous stone masonry method, and has set up water-friendly facilities along the stream, maintaining the natural ecological balance. This has been well received by stream hiking enthusiasts who visit and experience it. The Geotechnical Engineering Office stated that the principle of the Jingke Stream's improvement is to follow the stream's terrain, and to install water-friendly platforms, walkways, and bed stabilization structures to create a favorable environment for wildlife. In areas of high drop in the stream bed, long stone blocks are installed to dissipate energy. In addition, sedimentation pools are set up in flat areas of the stream, which serve both flood control, water storage, and water-friendly functions. The Geotechnical Engineering Office pointed out that the improvement of the Jingke Stream is divided into four sections, from the upper reaches (near the Happy Farm) to the lower reaches of the tributary. Near the Happy Farm in the uppermost section, the stream channel is improved using near-nature methods to install fish ladders, which are beneficial for fish migration and breeding, and it is full of vitality. The Geotechnical Engineering Office mentioned that the Jingke Stream flows through the stream channel near the Futian Garden Farm. In accordance with the local ecology, water-friendly platforms and walkways have been set up, combined with near-nature bed stabilization and embankment protection. The surrounding environment is beautiful, and the water is clear. In recent years, it has gradually become a popular destination for stream hiking enthusiasts to visit with friends. Continuing downstream near the Qingke Bridge, there is a water-friendly walkway where you can sit on the ground, put your feet in the cool stream water, and listen to the sound of the flowing water, creating a very peaceful atmosphere. The Geotechnical Engineering Office emphasized that the tributary of the Jingke Stream in the lower reaches has been improved for about 280 meters. Along the stream, cherry blossom trees have been planted, and water-friendly facilities have been created to form a leisure space. Every winter, when the cherry blossoms bloom, walking along the stream surrounded by blooming cherry blossoms is very poetic. The Geotechnical Engineering Office recommends that the scenery of the Jingke Stream is diverse, with beautiful mountain views everywhere. In the lush green forests, it is very suitable for stream hiking on a sunny day, to stretch your body. It is recommended to bring along family and friends to enjoy the water. As you hike upstream along the Jingke Stream, you can not only enjoy the clear stream and the beautiful scenery along the stream, but also experience the rich environment of birds and native plants. You can see dragonflies and damselflies flying around, and see fish groups such as rockfish, gudgeon, and bitterfish swimming leisurely. Among them, the section between Jingke Bridge and Zhugao Ling Bridge has become a new hidden gem for group stream hiking.
