The original name of "Sizwei" was "Ximei," derived from the village's location at the westernmost end of Nangan Island, which was later renamed upon the establishment of the National Army's presence. Sizwei has experienced population outflow, with an aging population, and now only three to four households remain. Visits to the settlement often reveal an especially quiet and desolate atmosphere, marked with undeniable coldness, solemnity, and loneliness. After the National Army withdrew to Matsu, residents relocated elsewhere, leading to the current state of abandonment and decay of the settlement. The Matsu National Scenic Area Administration has since stationed in Matsu. Due to visitors' frequent visits here for sunset viewings, they initiated construction of Sizwei's "Sunset Trail," also known as the "Qiu Gui Mountain Trail," originally expanding existing roads. This path not only provides a peaceful strolling location for locals but also has become one of the top attractions for tourists watching sunsets and photography enthusiasts capturing ideal scenery shots.
