Once the vital trade route between Yuanlin and Nantou, the trail is also known as the Salt-carrying Ancient Trail. Built with local stone, it retains the old-world charm of a traditional footpath, stretching approximately 1.7 km. The entire route is a gently ascending shaded walkway; only the branch section features steep steps. Along the way you can get up close to starfruit, lychee and other fruit trees, as well as low-elevation broadleaf forest landscapes. Diverse extension routes connect to nearby temples such as Cihui Hall, Guangtian Temple and Yuyi Temple, which also provide parking and drinking water (subject to change due to the pandemic), making it ideal for public leisure hiking.
