Since its founding over a decade ago, the Gloria Outlets has become a landmark in Greater Taoyuan. The exterior walls of cultured stone lend a strong European flavor, while the building’s flowing, curvilinear form overturns the conventional image of a department store; its striking, modern silhouette drew enthusiastic attention from the moment it opened. Inside, the design concept—“a shopping city filled with sunlight, air, and water”—is evident in the spacious, airy retail floors and meandering walkways. Rising nine stories, the building devotes five of them—each with soaring ceilings—to retail; natural light floods every level, subtly connecting interior and exterior and heightening the relaxed feel of a shopping stroll. To evoke the carefree fun of wandering city streets, the layout abandons the high-efficiency right angles typical of malls; instead, dynamic corridors make visitors wonder what surprise waits around the next corner. Strolling through Gloria, creativity is everywhere: installations on glass curtain walls, live-band performances, and periodic interior makeovers that deliver fresh visual thrills.
