新北市淡水區中正路、重建街、清水街一帶
From Tamsui MRT Station, turn right and head towards Chung Cheng Road and its extensions, Re建 Street and Ching Shui Street, which are home to the famous Tamsui Old Street. Tamsui Old Street is not only a well-known hotspot in Taiwan but also attracts many foreign visitors. The streets are lined with bustling shops, traditional old-style bakeries, and general stores, as well as trendy clothing and toy shops. One of Tamsui's must-try delicacies is "Ah-Ge," a dish whose name is derived from the partial pronunciation of the Japanese "oil tofu." The preparation involves hollowing out the center of the oil tofu, filling it with stir-fried winter noodles, soaking it in braising sauce, sealing it with fish paste, and then steaming it. Finally, it's drizzled with sweet and spicy sauce or the shop's secret sauce. Specialty snacks include fish balls, Ah-Baba's iron eggs, and fish crisps, among many others. There are also numerous historical sites to explore, making it impossible to get bored. Tamsui Old Street is divided into two sections: the outer section along the Golden Waterfront on the banks of the Tamsui River and the inner section, which is the traditional old street. The streets here are lined with bustling shops, traditional old-style bakeries, general stores, trendy clothing shops, and toy stores. In the evening, the Golden Waterfront offers a stunning view of the sunset over the sea. Re建 Street, located on a hillside, was developed earlier and still has many wooden and brick-built old houses. Walking to the end of the street offers a panoramic view of the Tamsui River mouth from a height. Later, due to commercial development, another street parallel to Re建 Street was formed, primarily consisting of rice shops and milling businesses, hence the name "Mǐ Shì Zǐ" (now the northern section of Ching Shui Street). It was renamed Ching Shui Street after the construction of the Ching Shui Temple. Walking along Chung Cheng Road, one can see the Dr. Mackay Statue Park, which has had a profound impact on Tamsui. Along the way are historical sites such as the Ching Shui Temple, Fu You Palace, Tamsui Hospital, and Tamsui Church. In addition to visiting historical sites, the unique shops in the old street are great places for shopping and enjoying local cuisine.
