The area around Bo'ai Road and Hankou Street, known as the "Bohan District," is home to the densest concentration of photography equipment stores in Taiwan. This Camera Street has witnessed the development of Taiwan's photography equipment industry. Since the introduction of photography technology to Taiwan during the early Japanese colonial period, cameras have been a luxury item that few people could afford. A camera was equivalent to a house or over 1,000 kilograms of white rice.
However, due to the presence of government agencies and media outlets in "Taipei City" and the convenient location near Taipei Railway Station, photography equipment stores gradually flourished in this area. In 1958, a store specializing in German Rollei large-format cameras, "Luo Lai," opened across from the Taipei Post Office, followed by the opening of Xingfu, Universe on Hankou Street, and Rongmei and Yongseng on Bo'ai Road. Over the years, nearly 50 camera stores have established themselves in this area, offering a wide range of brands and accessories.
As times have changed, cameras are no longer a luxury, and it's common for people to own a digital camera. However, for those seeking high-quality cameras, this is the place to go. The long-standing stores' commitment to professionalism naturally attracts customers who appreciate their expertise.
