The ferry service on the Xindian River began in 1881 (the 7th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign). There were nine ferry crossings from the upstream to the middle stream of the Xindian River, and the Xindian Ferry is the only remaining manual ferry crossing. In the early years, Xindian Ferry was the only transportation hub for entering the mountainous areas such as Wantan, Zhitang, Tutang, and Qushi from Xindian. After roads were opened one by one, this place gradually became a popular tourist spot for leisure on weekends and holidays. For residents or tourists taking the ferry to Wantan, in addition to reminiscing about the past, they can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of Bitan and the pleasure of a light boat by the water. Before the roads were opened, some residents relied on ferries as their main mode of transportation to the outside world. At that time, nine ferry crossings were set up along the river, but were gradually abandoned as land transportation improved. However, the "Xindian Ferry Crossing" connecting Wantan and Xindian Street is the only remaining manual ferry crossing along the river. After hundreds of years, it still shuttles back and forth between Xindian and Wantan.
