For more than 120 years, the development of medical technology and the growth of the church in central Taiwan—centered around Changhua Christian Hospital—have undergone tremendous change. The arrival of numerous missionaries broadened the overall foundation, and many stories of love unfolded during this period, the most celebrated being the historical account known as “Cutting Skin to Show Love.” Dr. David Landsborough and his family devoted two generations to Changhua; together with later medical missionaries and the pastoral team led by Rev. William Murray, they formed a holistic care system for body, mind, and spirit. The historical trajectory of this development is of immense scholarly value. To preserve and study these 120 years of invaluable historical materials, Changhua Christian Hospital established the Changhua Christian Hospital History & Relics Museum in 1998. Upholding the core value “God so loved the world,” the Changhua Christian Hospital Museum of History & Culture collects and researches the social-care networks created by Western missionaries who built the medical and church systems of central Taiwan, aiming to archive, add value to, and provide social learning from the medical historical materials of central Taiwan.
