The Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area is located in the northeastern corner of Taiwan, stretching from Nayu Village in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, in the north, to the southern tip of the coastal area in Su'ao Township, Yilan County, spanning a coastline of 102.5 kilometers and covering a total area of 17,421 hectares, including Turtle Island. The Northeast Coast is nestled between mountains and the sea, with a series of bays and capes, featuring rugged and unique rock formations, grand sea-eroded landscapes, soft golden beaches, and diverse marine ecology, as well as a rich cultural heritage, making it a comprehensive tourist destination that combines the functions of a natural classroom and a seaside recreational area. The unique terrain and climate of the area have created a rich ecosystem of flora and fauna; the waters to the north include the East China Sea Continental Shelf, and the Kuroshio Current flows to the east, providing a diverse and abundant fishery resource, making it an important fishing ground in Taiwan. In addition, the waters around Turtle Island and Nanfang'ao offer valuable whale-watching tourism resources. The long coastline has also given birth to a diverse and rich cultural heritage, including the unique stone houses of the Ao'ao Fishing Village, the Dali Tian Gong Temple, and the "Tiger Character Monument" and "Xiong Zhen Fan Smoke Inscription" on the Caoling Historic Trail, as well as the old Caoling Tunnel's gate inscription, "Regulate the Risky Terrain" and "White Clouds Fly Away," and the Sandiao Cape Lighthouse, all of which are precious ancient monuments that record the pioneering spirit of the ancestors and showcase the beauty of human culture. The vast and clear waters of the Northeast Coast are perfect for swimming, diving, sailing, surfing, and canoeing during the summer months, making it a popular destination for tourists, who can also combine their trip with a visit to the unique and ancient geological landscapes, enriching their travel experience. The area is rich in cultural history, geological landscape, and natural ecology, and the management office organizes seasonal festivals, such as the Fulong Welcoming the Dawn, International Sand Sculpture Art Festival, Cycling in the Northeast Coast, and the Caoling Historic Trail Osmanthus Season, among others.
