Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, Korean Located northwest of the inner village, near Beigang. The ancient name of the inner ditch was “Nei’an”; because of the low-lying terrain, it is surrounded by slopes to the north, east, and south, while the western side faces the sea, creating an opening. From Beigang to the west, about one nautical mile away, lies an underwater reef commonly called the Haise Reef. The land north of this reef is colloquially known as “Huozaiwei”; between the Haise Reef and Huozaiwei there is a water ditch that directs a stream straight into the inner settlement. According to ancestral legend: early settlers were repeatedly attacked by iron arrows, suffering frequent calamities and unable to live peacefully. Later, they invited a surveyor from Tangshan to inspect the site, who advised that a tower and a city wall must be urgently built to secure safety. The villagers believed this counsel and acted upon it. During the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (the year 1843 AD), the prominent family Lu Lun first promoted the project, gathering all strong young men in the settlement to work together in transporting stones. They built two towers—Ta Gong and Ta Po—at “Kuzai Border”; from Ta Gong they extended the northern city wall approximately 150 meters, and the southern wall to Ta Po, also about 150 meters. Ta Gong stands one meter tall, while Ta Po is one zhang and four chi (about 4.6 meters). The city wall is about two meters high and one meter wide. As of this year (Republic Year 84), it has a history of 152 years. [Recommended length of stay] 0.5 hours
