新北市貢寮區東興街3號
Just a few hundred meters from Longmen Campsite stands Dongxing Temple, which has stood here since 1911. In the ren-yin year of 1911, local gentry Wu A-dai and Wu You-tou, seeking the peace and welfare of the villagers, made a special journey to Keelung and Heping Island’s Sheling Temple to invite the incense of the three princely deities—Lin, Wen, and Fu—to Wazi for worship. They erected a small thatched shrine, and from that moment miracles appeared: favorable weather, national peace, all professions thriving, and people living in contentment. Those who fell ill prayed and were cured; believers came from near and far, and the incense grew ever stronger. In 1926 the temple was rebuilt into the majestic and solemn edifice seen today. The stretch of coast in front of Dongxing Temple’s square happens to be the favorite spot for surfers riding the waves in recent years. After a hearty seafood feast at a nearby restaurant, too lazy to move? Come here to while away a leisurely afternoon, watching the dazzling skills of “dragons on the sea” and “water nymphs.” When evening arrives, the afterglow of the sunset spreads over the scene, offering superb coastal sunset views—an ideal place to relax before the concert begins.
