Traditional national treasure, exquisitely displayed. The cultural-creative puppet park founded by the descendants of Master Xu Yanqing—himself a veteran head-carver—houses famous glove-puppet characters such as Shi Yanwen, Su Huanzhen, and the Black-White Prince, letting visitors admire up close the beauty and intricate detail of the puppets. With a century-deep root in Taiwan, glove-puppetry is one of the island’s emblematic local cultures; behind every dazzling performance lies the indispensable art of puppet carving. Master Xu began carving glove-puppet heads in the 1950s and created the era-defining figures that swept Taiwan—Shi Yanwen, the Mirror Guardian, the Black-White Prince, Liu San, Old Eccentric, Two-Teeth, and more. His craft has passed to his children and now thrives into the third generation.
