Taichung’s “August 23 Memorial Park” was established to commemorate the August 23, 1958 bombardment of Kinmen by Communist forces—the “August 23 Artillery Battle”—and to honor the ROC servicemen and civilians who valiantly defended Taiwan. The park displays land, sea, and air force equipment accompanied by detailed placards, reflecting the city government’s commitment to preserving historical memory. Although some of the weapons exhibited were not used in the 1958 bombardment but were later employed in Taiwan Strait defense, they remain representative and educational.
