Formosa Plastics Group began in 1954 with the founding of Taiwan Plastics Corporation, starting from a daily output of just four tons of PVC powder—the smallest production scale ever seen worldwide. After decades of effort and overcoming numerous challenges, it has now become one of the world’s largest PVC powder producers. It not only sparked the beginnings of Taiwan’s petrochemical industry but also spurred the vigorous development of the plastics processing sector, making significant contributions to the nation’s economic growth. The Group’s diversification started with plastics and gradually expanded into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, and biotechnology, while also extending its investments overseas. Throughout its development, adhering to the principle of “taking from society and giving back to society,” it has established medical and educational philanthropic initiatives to give back to the public, making it one of the largest private enterprises in Taiwan today. To chronicle the Group’s struggles and growth, and to comprehensively preserve the artifacts related to its development, thereby presenting the cultural essence of Formosa Plastics Group, the “Formosa Plastics Group Museum” was established.
