Sheehopowan in Pingtung is a well-known place that everyone has heard of. It is Taiwan's largest lagoon. While driving from Donggang towards the direction of Pengwan Bridge and Linbian, on the right-hand side of the road along the way, there lies a small, humble fishing village named Nanping. This tiny village looks out to Xiaoliuqiu Island across the Taiwan Strait on its right and offers wide views of the Sheehopowan lagoon on the left. Originally, local residents made a living through cultivating and fishing around Sheehopowan. After the Sheehopowan National Scenic Area was established, like many other remote rural areas, most young people chose to move to urban cities to seek better living opportunities. This is the hometown where Chou Ta-Kuan happily read books; to preserve the joyful memory of reading from his childhood, we have established the world's first field-education reading station—the Chou Ta-Kuan Read for Hope Center. At the center, we practice reading, serve kindness teas, offer free bike rent, and implement an international voluntary bed exchange program. We sincerely invite everyone to donate books continuously, allowing more underprivileged children and international backpackers to embrace reading together, sharing, and exchanging ideas. Sheehopowan's new highlight—the Chou Ta-Kuan Read for Hope Center—welcomes visitors from home and abroad for a guided reading experience: savor a cup of kindness tea and read a book you love. It also warmly invites global backpackers to share books, rest with books and friends, and exchange experiences and thoughts through reading. We sincerely invite people from all walks of life to contribute books continuously: bilingual picture books, parent-child children’s literature, heartwarming motivational works, science and nature books, philosophical and humanistic titles, lifestyle and parenting resources, etc., to send to rural areas. Travelers worldwide are also warmly welcomed to bring five picture books from their home country—participating in reading exchanges and the voluntary bed exchange program. In summary, we hope for a world where all readers are united regardless of national boundaries. Everyday reading is about reading books, hearts, and the world together.
