Yuanbei Islet is located east of Qitou Village, Baisha Township, and southwest of Bird Islet, near Pengpeng Reef. It is named for its shape resembling a spiral shell covering the water surface. The landscape is both beautiful and unique. The northern coastline features well-developed columnar jointing of basalt, most notably the "stone pen, inkstone, blank paper, and graphite," which are its most famous geological formations. On the northeast side of Yuanbei Islet, the basalt columns are well-developed and form a "hundred-pleat skirt" shape, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, with many folds, making it a highly valuable sight. Yuanbei Islet's "pen, ink, paper, and inkstone" are not only famous landforms but also part of the Basalt Nature Reserve. The small hill behind the village is an excellent spot for viewing the beautiful scenery. Looking northwest, you can see the basalt wonders, a must-visit attraction when coming to Yuanbei Islet! When the tide recedes, the seabed between Yuanbei Islet and Lake Xi Sand Harbor, composed of coral reefs, is exposed. This was once a vital transportation route for the early inhabitants of Yuanbei Islet, holding deep marine and cultural significance.
