新北市淡水區中正路259號
Located on Zhongzheng Road, the Custom Wharf during the Qing Dynasty was an important port in Taiwan due to the Tianjin Treaty in 1858 and the Beijing Treaty in 1860. It played a significant role in the history of trade. At that time, the Harbor Bureau Wharf and the British Consul's boat house were established here. The Chinese government later invited the British, Horatio N. Lay, as the "Inspector General of Customs", and the management of customs was taken over by foreigners. This is an important historical evidence of the invasion of northern Taiwan by the great powers at the end of the Qing Dynasty. The Danzui Custom Wharf area has Western-style buildings and two "Harbor Warehouses" built during the Japanese occupation, which are now designated as city monuments. On the riverside walkway, you can clearly see the 150-meter-long wharf with a gravity-type seawall structure, built with hard stones and filled with pebbles to prevent erosion from the tides. The stones used were mostly Guanyin stones and Qili'ankeng stones. There are also "mooring stones" and "gangways" for loading and unloading goods. Currently, it serves as a military dock and is restricted to military personnel. However, the area allows bicycles to enter, and there's a "Iron Horse Recreation Station" providing rest, basic repairs, and guided tours. The area offers a good view, and you can see the Guandu Bridge from the riverside. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Danshui River estuary. Nearby, there is the "Danshui Fishing Life and Cultural Image Museum" displaying many postcards of Danshui's landscapes and scenery. A scenic coffee shop with views of the ocean and sunset is also available.
