After leaving the Houbei Lake Fishing Port and heading toward Longtanshan Dam, turn right toward the southern shore of Longtanshan Dam. From there, you'll see the entrance sign for the Henequen Industrial Exhibition Area. The Kenting National Park Management Office has preserved the machinery room, henequen drying field, warehouse, dormitory, and the Japanese Shinto shrine-torii gate from the old henequen factory and developed them into an exhibition area. Here, visitors can gain a comprehensive understanding of henequen fiber, its manufacturing process, and the rise and fall of the Hengchun henequen industry. The original "Hengchun Henequen Farm," established by the Taiwan Fiber Company in 1913, served as a crucial base for promoting henequen cultivation and rope production. After the Republic of China era, the successful export of henequen ropes to Japan marked the industrial golden age of the Hengchun henequen sector. However, in the 1970s, nylon ropes replaced henequen fiber, leading to the closure of the Hengchun Henequen Farm in 1983. In 1995, the Kenting National Park Management Office transformed the remaining facilities into a historical exhibition area to showcase the development history of the Hengchun henequen industry, free for visitor exploration.
