【Brand Ata (Kata)】 “Kata” – a formal term in the Taroko dialect, defined by the word qkata, meaning a patterned bead in the Taroko language. “Kata Culture” is carried out by a cooperative group of Indigenous women, whose mission is to preserve traditional patterns and techniques. By combining expertise in various crafts, they start from the story behind each qkata (Kata) pattern, and with creative ideas for everyday life, continue the traditional handmade production methods and pattern-making techniques. This adds an engaging cultural perspective that is close to the cultural meanings and traditional life, embodying the spirit of giving and sharing. Located within the Taitung Sugar Factory, this R Original Craft Village is a gathering place where the Kata culture brings together local Indigenous workshops in Taitung. In the idle space of the Sugar Factory, it gives a voice to tribal culture and showcases the “tribal artisans” space of Taitung’s local craft culture. Because the R Craft Village has moved in, there is the aroma of woven moon peach leaves, the warmth of fired glass beads, the patterns of woven cloth, the scent of wood shavings, and the songs from the tribe. The warehouse has been transformed into a spectacular space for tribal handmade creative products, using a “share-and-help” model to build a cooperative economy that embodies the concept of a “social enterprise” in today’s society.
