桃園市龜山區新北市238樹林區大棟山登山步道
Mount Dadong sits on the boundary between Shulin District, New Taipei City, and Guishan District, Taoyuan City. Also known as “Hengkengzi” or “Guilun Mountain,” it rises 405 m above sea level, forming the highest point of the Linkou Tableau ridge and ranking among Taiwan’s “Little 100 Peaks.” The summit bears both a first-order triangulation station and a Surveying and Mapping Center benchmark. Numerous trails—starting from Shanjia, Shulin, Yingge, or Guishan—lead to the top. The most popular route is the Qinglong Ridge–Mount Dadong traverse, famed for its million-dollar night views: a gentle, 3-km path that easily reaches the 405-m triangulation point. An observation deck on the peak offers sweeping vistas of the Linkou Tableau, Guanyin Mountain, the Datun range, and the entire Xueshan Range, while below lie the urban skylines of Shulin, Xinzhuang, and greater Taipei–New Taipei, plus the dragon-like ribbon of the high-speed rail and the Dahan River. Hikers, cyclists, and photographers regard it as the ultimate spot for Taipei–New Taipei nightscapes. Leveraging Mount Dadong’s commanding height, the Water Resources Agency chose the summit for a hydrological station that continuously gathers meteorological and hydrological data, monitors water levels in the Tamsui River basin, and transmits real-time information to the flood-control command center—standing sentinel over the residents of Taipei and New Taipei.
