Walking from the 168.5K marker on the Shuiku Highway near the border marker at the entrance of Hengren Trail, descend about 200 meters. After crossing a stretch of forested path, you will reach Hengren Gravel Beach. The first sight is large and small stones scattered on the beach; these stones originally fell from cliffs due to landslides and rolled down to the seaside. Following is a vast expanse of clean, smooth gravel beach. This is composed of crushed marble and gneiss transported from the north side by Lishui Creek and Kangang Creek (Qnagan, Hengren Creek). These materials have been carried and deposited by seawater. To the south of the gravel beach lies a wide, flat sea cave. Further south, massive gneiss cliffs exhibit several large quartz veins piercing through them; such enormous quartz veins are rare in Taiwan. At the southernmost end of the gravel beach, several narrow, elongated cavities appear. Among them, one cavity has already traversed through the rock layer.
