The predecessor of the Taipei Post Office of Taiwan Post Co., Ltd. was the "General Post Office" established by Liu Ming-chuan. During the Japanese rule, due to the establishment of the railway network, the status of train stations became increasingly important. Since postal services were closely related to train stations, it was moved to its current location. Initially, it was a Japanese-style wooden building. Later, it was destroyed by a fire, and it was rebuilt into a reinforced concrete building in 1929. After the war, due to the expansion of postal services and organizational changes, it was reorganized into a state-owned "Taiwan Post Co., Ltd. Taipei Post Office" on January 1, 2003. On February 9, 2007, it was renamed "Taiwan Post Co., Ltd. Taipei Post Office". The Taipei Post Office is a huge four-story building with simple decoration and clean lines. The entrance porch protrudes and is in a semicircular arch shape. The front of the building has four pairs of double circular classical columns and mountain head decorations. On the exterior, double columns are used between windows to separate the window frames, which are divided into three sections: two large and one small. The interior lobby has a two-story high ceiling. The structure uses a simplified design. The classical carvings on the columns and the ceiling of the lobby are very delicate and elegant. Today's Taipei Post Office, located beside the North Gate, is also known as the North Gate Post Office. Its postal service hours are longer than others, and many people come and go to mail packages until night.
