Located in Jiongmei Village,白沙 Township, Penglai County, there stands a mysterious island outpost situated near Bingzhiyu. This minimalist square-shaped cottage rises in the vast ocean. When the tide recedes, you can see a 300-meter long concrete walkway connecting it to Jiongmei Fishing Harbor becomes visible. During high tide, the concrete path disappears under seawater, leaving the outpost as an isolated island amidst rising and falling waves.
It is said that before Zhongzheng Yong'an Bridge was built, the only overland connection between白沙 Township and Huxi Township passed through this location. Locals had to carefully monitor tidal schedules, crossing only when tides receded. During early post-Retrocession years when political tensions were high on Taiwan, this outpost was established here by military units as a security checkpoint to monitor identification documents of villagers passing through.
As transportation infrastructure modernized over time, the outpost lost its strategic function. Around 1950s, the stationed coastal defense forces withdrew, leaving only ruins standing in the ocean.
In recent years with澎 lake's secret destinations trend, this location has become a popular photogenic spot. However visitors should note the tides - at high tide the scenic outlook presents one appearance, while during low tide it transforms into another. Travelers need to carefully plan tidal timing to capture ideal photos, and should also be cautious of rapidly changing conditions to avoid being stranded by sudden rising sea levels.
