The connected Zhongzhu Breakwater Dongyin was not originally an island but a combination of two separate islands, Dongyin and Xiyin. There was previously a reef called Zhongzhu Island between them. At high tide, this would appear as an isolated reef island, located about 200 meters away from Xiyin. Before the construction of the causeway connecting the two islands, low tide would allow people to cross from Dongyin via Zhongzhu Island to Xiyin through wading across the water. In 1975, the national defense forces used the blasted rock from constructing the Zhongzhu Harbor to build the long breakwater. First, they built Jieshi Bridge to connect Dongyin with Zhongzhu Island, and later completed the road connecting to Xiyin, thereby linking Dongyin and Xiyin. This improved accessibility and the term "Zhongzhu Causeway" better describes this connection today. A stone inscription reading "Zhong Liu Di Zhu" (a pillar standing firm in the middle stream) is located on Zhongzhu Island, and there is also a gratitude pavilion elevated above the road surface along the way. From afar, one can also see the bronze statue of Jiang Jieshi sitting inside the pavilion, a major landmark on the journey to Dongyin. Strolling along this straight road, one can enjoy the scenery of the setting sun on the ocean surface of Zhongzhu Harbor during dusk, the sun slowly sinking into the horizon with peaceful and poetic beauty.
