The Lin Benyuan Mansion, which has stood for over a century, was originally a rental villa for the Lin family during the Qing dynasty. It was later expanded by brothers Lin Guohua and Lin Guofang. After enduring wars and the test of a century, although it has shown some signs of aging, it has been restored by the government and once again showcases its exquisitely crafted architecture, bringing a strong sense of nostalgia to visitors. ** Pavilions and Buildings of Lin Benyuan Mansion** Upon entering the Lin Benyuan Mansion, visitors are greeted by classical and elegant pavilions, small bridges over flowing water, and weeping willows reflected in the lake. These sights create a serene atmosphere amidst the bustling city. The mansion is divided into two main areas: the "Banqiao Lin Family Garden" and the "Lin Benyuan Residence." The "Banqiao Lin Family Garden" refers to the courtyard outside the residence. It includes the Laiqing Pavilion, the tallest and most ornate structure in the garden. The pavilion was named "Laiqing" because, in the past, one could see Guanyin Mountain and Datun Mountain from its heights. It was also a place for receiving distinguished guests. In the center of the pond stands the Yuebo Pavilion, where visitors can admire the moon. The largest area in the garden is the "Dingjing Hall," which was once the site of grand banquets hosted by the Lin family. Additionally, the garden features various artificial mountains and waters, where visitors can enjoy the lake's ecosystem from a cool pavilion. The "Lin Benyuan Residence," the ancestral home of the Lin family, is a three-section compound located on the west side of the garden. Visitors can register at the service desk for a guided tour, following the guide to explore the quintessential Qing-era mansion. In the courtyard of the three-section compound stands the "Shengzhi Stone Stele," which legend says was a gift from Empress Dowager Cixi to the Lin family in the name of Emperor Guangxu, symbolizing the close ties between the Lin family and the imperial court. Visitors can also admire the intricate carvings on the swallowtail roof, featuring symbols such as turtles (representing longevity) and qilins (symbolizing auspiciousness), which reflect the family's aspirations. Walking through the Lin Benyuan Mansion, visitors can still sense the grandeur of a once-affluent family. When visiting, it is worth taking time to appreciate the intricate floral carvings on the buildings and exploring the "Guangu Bookroom," where one can purchase delicate and charming cultural and creative souvenirs.
