Fengshan City preserves the remains of the Qing-era Fengshan County City. To differentiate it from the old city of Zuoying District in Kaohsiung, the county city of Fengshan is referred to as "New City." Within the New City ruins, the only surviving structure retaining the original gateway appearance is the Dongbian Gate and the Dongfu Bridge spanning Fengshan Creek.
