Located in the Ancuo Township, Tong'an Village of Ziguan District, the Zhang Family Ancient House was built during the Qing Dynasty and is the best-preserved and most complete Minnan-style Siheyuan in Ziguan District. Most residents of Tong'an Village are immigrants who came from Tong'an, Fujian, during the Ming‑Zheng period. They settled on the prosperous Ziguan plain, and the Zhang family, known for their spirit and talent, built the "Jiu Bao Wu" Siheyuan—a large ancestral hall that symbolizes the family's wealth and prosperity. This ancient house is a rare example of the two‑storey red‑tile and red‑brick construction. It is fully equipped with the classic features of a stretch‑hand and protective dragon, and the roof boasts beautiful horse‑back, bird‑foot, and floral window trim. Above the central hall's doorframe are the characters “Mei Kui.” The antique lighting fixtures in the hall echo a sense of historical charm. From the delicate wooden window carvings and colorful decorations, one can imagine the former owner's splendid and refined lifestyle.
