Kung Hsun Ceramics Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Wu Gu Culture Village, was established during the heyday of the decorative ceramics industry. Initially, the company rented and renovated an abandoned three-in-one courtyard into a workshop. For at least two years, they operated as a subcontractor for other major manufacturers, handling processes such as firing, repair, slip casting, color painting, and even shipping. Later on, they gradually took on independent orders and, during peak periods, assisted other small family-owned factories by establishing alliances and allocating a portion of their orders. As the economy developed, the company expanded rapidly. In the 1980s, with an increasing volume of orders, the small workshop became insufficient, and the company purchased its current factory site. The new factory shifted from manual slip casting to automatic assisted slurry, and the four-sided kiln (shuttle kiln) was replaced with a tunnel kiln. Today, under the leadership of General Manager Hsu, Yong-Han, with a deep love for his hometown and a commitment to sustaining Taiwan's cultural heritage, Kung Hsun Ceramics has transformed into "Wu Gu Culture Village". This evolution showcases the development of Miaoli's decorative ceramics culture and its interdependent production model, combining leisure tourism, cultural heritage, and traditional and modern decorative ceramics. In the future, Wu Gu Culture Village aims to integrate Miaoli's "decorative ceramics art," "Hakka cultural landscape," and the cultural and historical background of the "Wu Gu spirit". The company will continue to invest in enhancing its products to meet the demands of future tourism, striving for precision, beauty, and high quality, while creating new added value. The goal is to establish Wu Gu Culture Village as an international brand, sustain its operations, and forge a brilliant future.
