Located beside the Wulai Xindian Bus Terminal, the Wulai Suspension Bridge spans the Nanshi River and is about 105 meters long. Its three-story-tall piers are decorated with traditional Atayal totems. Unlike most scenic suspension bridges, visitors must climb to the third floor before stepping onto the deck to admire the Wulai valley. To the north, the red tourist arch bridge; to the south, the confluence of the Nanshi and Tonghou Rivers and the open-air hot-spring scenery—together they frame the majestic riverscape of the Nanshi River. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese built the Wulai Nanshi Suspension Bridge downstream of the Wulai Power Plant to supply water for the generators and to construct a weir; that bridge is no longer visible. In its place, the current scenic suspension bridge was completed in December 2010, offering visitors a pleasant walk and grand valley views. After crossing the Wulai Suspension Bridge, a six-minute walk leads to Wulai Old Street. Besides strolling the street and sampling local delicacies, don’t miss the nightly light show on the Lansheng Bridge. Built in 2019, the Lansheng Bridge crosses the Nanshi River, linking Wulai Old Street with the hot-spring district. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 18:30 to 20:30 (on the hour), a dazzling light display transforms the daytime lake-green bridge into a kaleidoscope of colors, making it a prime spot for night viewing in Wulai. By day, stand on the “transparent glass viewing platforms” on either side of the bridge: from the 9-meter-high walkway, the rushing Nanshi River directly beneath your feet is utterly breathtaking.
